Telling Our Story One Scrapbook Page At A Time – Installment 18, Galveston 2012 No. 5, Some Beautiful Houses

While on our trek to find the tree sculptures, we saw some beautiful house. I thought I should share a few with you.

The Frederich-Erhard House, a historical home we saw. It is beautiful.

Another beautiful house. Just look at the details. Definitely very grand. Vibrant colors. But I can’t get over the details!

Two more houses that really caught my eye. I just love the colors.

The houses have stood against hurricanes and the floods they bring. Most of the house we saw had signs near the front door showing where the flood waters came to on the house.

I think we might be getting a little hungry now so please come back to see what we get into next!

Telling Our Story One Scrapbook Page At A Time – Installment 16, Galveston 2012, No. 3 Tree Sculptures part 1

On September 13, 2008, Hurricane Ike made landfall on Galveston. Among the destruction Ike caused were beautiful old trees, uprooting and killing thousands. Years later, the tree sculptures were born.

On this day, we decided we would take the list and map we found online and see how many tree sculptures we could find. Although we did not find them all, we could have but our stomachs had other ideas. So, here is today’s tree sculpture scrapbook pages.

“Pod of Dolphins and Mermaid” located at 902 Ball Street. The artist is Earl Jones.

“Dolphin” located at 828 Ball Street. The artist is Earl Jones.

“Squirrel with Acorn” located at 1302 Ball Street. The artist is Dayle Lewis.

“Wildlife Totem Pole” located at 1302 Ball Street. The artist is Dayle Lewis.

“Two Herons” located at 1316 Ball Street. The artist is Dayle Lewis.

“Guitar” located at 1415 Ball street. The artist is unknown, however some website say the homeowner is the artist.

“Toad” located at 1615 Ball Street. The artist is Dayle Lewis.

Tomorrow I will be back to complete the tree sculpture tour.

Continuing with SeaWolf Park. Since we were homeschooling our son at this time, we decided it would be the perfect opportunity to visit the Galveston Naval Museum.

We first toured the USS Stewart, a WWII destroyer escort.

Then toured the USS Cavalla, a WWII submarine.

There are truly no words to describe the history we walked through. Photos do not do it justice.

Afterwards, we walked over to a building on the park that was destroyed by Hurricane Ike.

I must confess, I did have to go to Michaels to purchase something I did not have to create my scrapbook pages on the UUS Stewart and USS Cavalla. I initially went to get stickers only, but then I saw the embossed navy blue paper and new it would be perfect for the layouts.

Tomorrow will be another fun day as we go in search of the tree sculptures.

It’s time for me to put together scrapbook pages for a weekend getaway we took in 2012. We like going to Galveston. It’s somewhat east to get to from our house as long as we manage to avoid the traffic in Houston. That is definitely the worse part of going to Galveston… Houston traffic and Houston road construction. It’s never ending much like I-35!!!

On this trip, it was my husband, our son Dawson, and our traveling frog mascots. Luckily they didn’t get out too much. We used bonus time with our SilverLeaf timeshare so we had a place to stay and didn’t have to worry about where we would be eating. We typically eat at the condo so we always stop at WalMart to pick up the necessary items as we are driving in. Every morning starts the same way… coffee on the balcony.

On this day, we decided to make our way to SeaWolf Park. It is so nice there. Lots to see and explore. I like watching the ships as they pass by. And sometimes, I have even spotted dolphins playing. But not this time.

To be continued

Telling Our Story One Scrapbook Page At A Time – Installment 13, Carnival Destiny 2003

I remember a time when you book a cruise and they mailed you your boarding pass, luggage tags, and the little fine details such as your cruise contract. It was compact and easy to carry!!!!

This was an awesome cruise!! The itinerary was fantastic. Having plenty of time in the ports was a real treat. In Aruba, we were able to shop in the morning, go to the beach in the afternoon, and go out that night. Truly it was good times with our friends and we definitely met some very interesting characters.

One day I will find a cruise out of San Juan that does an itinerary similar to this. Maybe one day, Carnival will have a journey cruise from Galveston that could get me back to Aruba!!!!

Now I wonder where the pictures from this cruise are…

Since I am obviously making scrapbook pages from old photo’s, I have found another artwork/photo to include in a scrapbook page.

Finding the perfect sketch, paper, and alpha stickers was easy and the page came together in about 15 minutes. It took longer to adhere the alpha stickers than anything else.

I am so happy I have decided to use sketches to scrap my mountain of old photos. Everyday I feel like I have accomplished something!!!

COVID had a way of changes things especially for school kids. My grandson, Weston, was in the first grade when things started to change. He went from being in a classroom with his friends to being at home with his family. One of his assignments was to send a letter or artwork to a family member. He worked real hard on this assignment making sure to send things out. I was thrilled when I received my in the mail!!!

I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with my picture he so lovingly made for me, but I knew i didn’t want it to get lost in a box somewhere. I found a sketch in 525 NEW AND INSPIRING SCRAPBOOKING SKETCHES that works perfect for my needs. Now, the picture he drew for me will now be in a family scrapbook album.

So something good did happen for me in 2020!

I am so proud of my granddaughter, Victoria. She finished her high school career on November 11th, 2020!!! Months ahead of her classmates!!!! Although the graduation isn’t until sometime in May or June, she is done!!! Her future is as bright as she wants it to be. I’m sure she will thrive in whatever direction she chooses to go in.

I love you Victoria!!!!

Telling Our Story One Scrapbook Page At A Time – Installment 9, Family Edition #1

Family is everything. Family is always there for us in times of joy and sadness. I am like everyone else. I’m proud of my family. I love my family.

Today I want to share a scrapbook page I made today. The photos are of my grandson Weston, my granddaughter Victoria, and my daughter, Kimmie. They give me joy. But in this picture, I am most proud of my daughter. She is a certified teacher currently working as a teacher assistant for special ed children. She worked real hard to get her degree and then to test for the teaching certificate. She is proof that if you work hard toward your goal, you can achieve it.

I must admit, I never knew that when the kids are having their school pictures made, they also take pictures of the teachers/teacher assistants!!!!

I can’t decide what I want to do for tomorrows scrapbook page adventure. I will either being doing one scrapbook page about my middle granddaughters senior picture or possibly our 2010 Galveston quick trip that was cut short. I guess we shall all see what tomorrow brings.
